38. accident，event，incident，occurrence都指帶來傷亡或事物損失的事故。常用詞組：by accident 偶然地。

　　Nowadays people who drive automobiles or ride in them take various precautions against accidents. 現(xiàn)在，駕駛或乘坐汽車的人都會采取許多防范事故的措施。

　　event ：“事件、事變/大事”，一般用于比較重大的并且有前因可循的事情，因而多指國家和社會的事件，有時指特別重要的事情。常用詞組：at all events 無論如何，in the event /in the event of 如果說/如果發(fā)生 (某種情況) 。

　　The government has made a new plan to save the nation in the event of nuclear war. 政府制定了一項關(guān)于萬一爆發(fā)核戰(zhàn)爭如何拯救國家的計劃。

　　incident：“事件、事變”，一般指不重要的、偶然性的小事，或是在大事件影響下發(fā)生的“附帶事件”，也可以指可能引起國際糾紛的政治性 “事件、事端或事變?！?/P>

　　Repeated minor incidents led finally to the danger of open combat at the boundary.不斷發(fā)生的小摩擦最終可能會導(dǎo)致邊境上的公開武裝沖突。
